OMSSA is committed to the development and implementation of progressive public policy
throughout Ontario in children's services, social housing and homelessness, and social
assistance.
OMSSA promotes progressive social policy through its advocacy activities. OMSSA defines
advocacy as "undertaking actions that positively impact and / or change for the better social
policies, social services delivery and related funding frameworks."
The values that underlie OMSSA's advocacy work are:
OMSSA believes that social and community services are an investment in people and that investing in people benefits everyone.
OMSSA believes that Ontario will benefit from an integrated social services system that is accessible, equitably available and sensitive to local circumstances.
OMSSA believes that social and community services should be delivered in a manner that respects and protects the dignity and human rights of the individual.
OMSSA performs its advocacy work within the following framework:
OMSSA consistently advocates from the Consolidated Municipal Service System Managers' perspective.
OMSSA promotes the integration of social and community services within Ontario.
OMSSA undertakes its advocacy initiatives in children's services, social housing and homelessness, and social assistance.
OMSSA seeks input from its members via a variety of mechanisms to establish its advocacy work plan.
OMSSA focuses 80 per cent of its advocacy efforts to advance high priority progressive social policy and 20 per cent of its efforts to respond to immediate issues.
OMSSA works collaboratively with like-minded organizations and groups to further its advocacy objectives.
