SOCIAL ASSISTANCE

OMSSA believes that increased investment in a system of economic security for families and individuals is essential to the achievement of healthy sustainable communities.

For over 50 years, OMSSA has advocated for improvements to social assistance policies and program design; and provided policy and program support to its members.

To achieve this, OMSSA:
  • Analyses information, conducts surveys and develops position papers advocating for policies and programs that will increase economic security for individuals and families.
  • Works with the Association of Municipalities of Ontario to inform the Provincial Government's policy design and program implementation plans.
  • Creates opportunities for members to dialogue with senior orders of government on policy development.
  • Networks with relevant community stakeholders in the area of research and the development of fair and equitable policy and practices in social assistance.
  • Creates networking opportunities for members to share information and seek solutions related to social assistance policies and service delivery.
OMSSA also provides information and professional development services to enable its members to deliver high quality services and to influence decision makers by being better informed and by developing skills in the planning, management and delivery of social assistance.
