Policy and Procedure Writing

Policies and procedures are important tools designed to assist staff and management with carrying out their work effectively – policies lay out the terms of reference and parameters within which any and all organizational processes are conducted. Additionally, clearly articulated procedures help facilitate a smooth progression of work from yet the process of creating them can be overwhelming.

Do you know where do you start? What should be included in a policy? What distinguishes a policy from a procedure?

This workshop will examine the purpose of policy development and provide a process for creating a tool that staff can actually use!

What you will Learn:

Day One:

  • Defining Policy and Procedure – understanding the difference!
  • Getting Started – what information to collect
  • Determining the Flavour
  • Planning, analysing, researching!

Day Two:

  • Foundations of Writing – the format and process
  • Drafting, reviewing, editing and approvals – who to involve
  • Publishing and communicating the policy – who should know
  • Critiquing Policies and Procedures

Who should attend:

Managers, Supervisors; anyone that has to write a policy or document a procedure. This workshop will include policy writing exercises – participants are encouraged to bring samples or ideas from their workplace to write policies that relate to their work!
