Under the direction of the Program Manager, Eligibility Review & Program Audit, is responsible for conducting provincially mandated reviews, investigations and collection functions in accordance with Provincial Legislation to assist the organization in reducing program financial loss due to benefit overpayments or failure to repay benefits; gathers information to support decisions regarding eligibility and/or criminal prosecution and acts on behalf of the Regional Municipality of York at tribunals and legal proceedings.

Location: Richmond Hill, Ontario. This is a Union position.

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 35; Scheduled Shifts: 0830 -1630

Temporary Full-Time, Approx. 5 months, Salary $39.90 - $43.37 per hour 

Under the direction of the Program Manager, Eligibility Review & Program Audit, is responsible for conducting provincially mandated reviews, investigations and collection functions in accordance with Provincial Legislation to assist the organization in reducing program financial loss due to benefit overpayments or failure to repay benefits; gathers information to support decisions regarding eligibility and/or criminal prosecution and acts on behalf of the Regional Municipality of York at tribunals and legal proceedings. 

Qualifications 

  • Community College diploma in social services, law enforcement or equivalent program with emphasis on social services and/or investigations.
  • Three years direct casework or investigation experience within a social service or related program including experience working with individuals, third parties, agencies, and/or regulatory bodies in a legal or quasi-legal setting.
  • Ontario Class “G” Driver’s Licence and vehicle for use on corporate business.
  • Satisfactory Police Criminal Background Check.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation related to the program area such as Ontario Works Act, Day Nurseries Act and Social Housing Reform Act.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability with basic mathematics and calculations.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including communication, innovation, teamwork and collaboration, and personal ownership.
  • Computer literacy utilizing MS Office software applications, as well as ability to use program specific technology and specialized software etc.
  • Demonstrated communication and presentation skills to communicate information to diverse clients in a legal/quasi-legal environment. 
  • Ability to conduct intensive investigations maintaining confidentiality and civil rights of all parties involved where situations may become confrontational and hostile.
  • Ability to work outside regular business hours as required.
