Housing Services Corporation (HSC) is a non-profit organization that is committed to ensuring that Ontario residents have access to safe and affordable housing. 

This role is responsible for conducting the research, analysis and financial modelling to support both current and future strategic initiatives for HSC.  This role will primarily support HSC Consulting Services with an emphasis on Asset Management and Renewal and will play a key role in helping to formulate strategies, and in the planning and delivery of business development opportunities.  This role must remain current on the actions and activities taking place in the sector in Ontario and in Canada to identify business opportunities for HSC.

Responsibilities: 

Financial and Business Analysis:  30% of the time

  • Performs forecasting and cost/benefit analysis and monitors results to enable the organization to make evidence-based informed decisions
  • Conducts ad-hoc analysis and modelling for new and existing business lines
  • Analyzes key financial indicators of prospects and businesses.  Provides insights on opportunities for improvements and potential gains that could be obtained by pursuing those opportunities
  • Performs tasks to support the analysis and reporting of the organizations Enterprise Risk Management
  • Undertakes analysis of a range business program and services to assess and determine effective and efficient service delivery needs and to provide support to internal and external organizational initiatives
  • Conducts specialized qualitative and quantitative research and analysis in a team and business unit context to further HSC’s objectives. 

Knowledge Management:  30% of the time

  • Prepares submissions to government on behalf of HSC and the sector
  • Writes business proposals, reports and studies.  Undertakes review and editing of externally driven research on behalf of HSC
  • Applies financial knowledge and manages research projects that support decision making on matters pertaining to housing policies, programs and strategies
  • Manages the collection, delivery, entry, verification, and analysis of data for reporting, recommendations and decision-making
  • Conducts research and remains current on regulations and other issues affecting business initiatives
  • Applies research methods, including interpreting and reporting on statistical, demographic and socio-economic data for preparing detailed reports and proposals
  • Undertakes proactive networking with key stakeholders, particularly within the sector, to identify new service delivery opportunities
  • Works closely with government and stakeholders in affordable housing, providing and ensuring positive relations with HSC and ensures HSC’s interest is maintained at all times. 

Asset Management/Consultancy Strategy:  20% of the time

  • Supports the development, management and execution of projects and products offered to the sector under HSC’s Asset Management and Renewal and Consultant Services business offerings
  • Supports the response to requests for Proposals (RFP), Requests for Expression of Interests for a wide range of service and program requirements relating to asset management
  • Researches and supports the content development of Sustainable Housing Asset Resource Exchange (SHARE), Expiry of Operating Agreement (EOA) Resource Centre and organizational events (Regeneration Forum)
  • Coordinates the content for SHARE events (Innovation Series, Webinars Series, and Communities of Practice)
  • Coordinates, drafts and develops reports for the organization and senior management on divisional, corporates issues and projects
  • Monitors major asset renewal/regeneration initiatives, innovations and activities in the sector 

Business Development:  20% of the time

  • Initiates and identifies business development opportunities for diversification of HSC’s offering.
  • Develops, manages and executes the project and products offered to the sector in the financial space
  • Builds interest in HSC programs and services to source new revenue streams for consulting projects
  • Monitors financial developments, initiatives, innovations and activities in the sector
  • Initiates and identifies business development opportunities for diversification of the Corporation’s offerings
  • Performs client needs diagnostics and develops custom proposals. 

Desired Skills and Experience: 

The successful candidate will have excellent analytical skills, strong communication skills and should be able to effectively manage multiple projects, priorities and tasks. 

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

  • Post-Secondary education related to business administration or an analytical area such as financial management or economics
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in business management or social services administration
  • Experience in Research Methods (Quantitative & Qualitative),  Survey Design, Statistical Program for the Social Sciences (SPSS/SAS Training), Evaluation Certification, Excel Training or GIS software would be an asset
  • Strong understanding of financial management and planning, and experience developing strategic plans
  • Experience in strategic and organizational development and research in the public sector
  • High level conceptual and analytic capacity with the ability to compile, source, evaluate and synthesize business and program information from a range of relevant sources
  • Demonstrated analytical experience through data analysis and interpretation of complex financial data reports, statistics or research
  • Demonstrated experience writing detailed reports, publications or proposals
  • Demonstrated track record in achieving performance or revenue growth targets in a business development environment.
