Momiji Health Care Society, Executive Director Momiji Seniors Centre

Momiji is seeking a visionary Executive Director who will successfully lead and deliver on Momiji’s mission, mandate and governing requirements in response to the needs of our key stakeholders. We are looking for a leader who can build and enhance the profile of Momiji with key stakeholders through active communication, fundraising and outreach to exemplify our position as a leader in independent living for seniors.

Organization Background:

Momiji means maple in Japanese and, just as the maple is most beautiful in the fall, our autumn years can be brilliant too. Momiji’s philosophy of care is based on respect, dignity and independence for our seniors. 

Momiji Health Care Society is a not-for-profit charitable organization whose objective is to assist seniors, primarily of Japanese Canadian descent, to live independently in their own homes either at Momiji residence or in the community by arranging for services.  These services focus on maximizing the seniors’ independence, health, and personal growth to enrich their quality of life. 

Position Summary:

Momiji is seeking a visionary Executive Director who will successfully lead and deliver on Momiji’s mission, mandate and governing requirements in response to the needs of our key stakeholders. We are looking for a leader who can build and enhance the profile of Momiji with key stakeholders through active communication, fundraising and outreach to exemplify our position as a leader in independent living for seniors.  

Qualifications:

  • A relevant professional degree such as business, health sciences, or a comparable combination of education, training and experience.
  • Minimum 5 years recent related senior management experience, ideally in the health sector serving seniors.
  • Demonstrated effective leadership skills in fiscal management, strategic planning, accreditation process, and program and staff development.
  • Proven ability to provide sound financial leadership and accountability in a similar sized organization, including responsibility for expenditures, fundraising, and operational management.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a Board of Directors of a not for profit or charity.
  • Experience working within a government funded organization and ability to meet reporting and accountability requirements.
  • Strong consultation, conflict resolution, public relations and negotiating skills
  • Ability to apply practices, principles and legislative requirements related to community care, human rights, occupational health and safety, and employment standards
  • Sound understanding and experience of the cornerstones of a health charity including fundraising, volunteer development, program development and delivery, marketing and financial management. 

Major Responsibilities

  • Leads and delivers on Momiji mission and vision in accordance with the strategic directions developed with, and approved by the Board of Directors
  • Provides overall direction and leadership to the business operations of the Momiji Seniors Centre
  • Oversees planning and effective management for the human resources, administration and finance functions
  • Advances a culture of safety for our seniors, staff and volunteers.
  • Leads the development, implementation and monitoring of appropriate policies and procedures for the organization.
  • Provides leadership and advancement in quality improvement initiatives by developing and delivering on the Quality Improvement Plan and supporting Accreditation activities.
  • Leads and motivates a diverse workforce through effective teamwork and collaboration
  • Fosters a respectful, harassment-free environment for our seniors, staff and volunteers,
  • Develops and maintains healthy relationships with funders, donors and other key stakeholders
  • Ensures effective risk management strategies, including monitoring financial performance, employee relations, occupancy, safety and security, public relations, customer relations, regulatory and service agreement compliance.

  • Exceptional visionary and strategic planning skills
  • Excellent Board relations skills.
  • Able to communicate effectively, with attention to detail when communicating both orally and in writing. Strong presentation skills and ability to serve as Momiji’s spokesperson.
  • Strong administrative, managerial and financial oversight skills with knowledge of current Quality Improvement programs and practices, and current accreditation requirements.
  • Ability to speak the Japanese language and/or appreciate the Japanese culture is an asset.
