The Supervisor, Social Assistance & Homelessness Services, has the primary objective of supporting each individual on his or her team to achieve a high performance level. Reporting to a manager and working collaboratively with the Health and Human Services leadership team, the supervisor is an enthusiastic coach, mentor, and role model and excels at developing productive relationships with team members and the citizens we serve. The Supervisor is adept at understanding and applying complex legislation and policy, developing new policies and standard operating procedures, generating solutions to resolve client situations, and helping team members continually develop their own skills. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • University graduation in the social sciences is the minimum required educational credential.
  • Over five years and up to seven years progressive experience in Social Services with the majority of experience working directly within Social Assistance programs.
  • Direct supervisory experience in a unionized environment.
  • Must have demonstrated interpersonal, team leadership skills as well as verbal and written communication skills including well developed presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated research, analytical and report writing skills.
  • Must also possess thorough knowledge of relevant legislation (Ontario Works, Ontario Disability Support Program and related Acts) and community resources.
  • Well-developed understanding of current issues surrounding poverty, domestic violence, mental illness and addiction, child development, education and vocational/employment counselling
  • Must possess thorough knowledge of the current suite of Microsoft productivity tools, including PowerPoint, Excel and Word.
  • Strong knowledge of SAMS (Social Assistance Management System). 

WAGE RANGE: $73,698.00 to $92,122.00 per annum (based on 35 hour week) with benefits.
