POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of the Director of Social Services, the Children Services Supervisor is responsible for the delivery of Children’s Services programs for the City of St Thomas and Elgin County in accordance with Ministry of Education guidelines, early learning pedagogy and responsibilities as system service manager under the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA). May delegate specific responsibilities to staff members, together with necessary authority for their fulfilment, but may neither delegate nor relinquish overall responsibility for results. Maintains the confidentiality of all matters coming to the incumbent’s knowledge through employment. 

EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

University Degree in Social Sciences with emphasis on the study of early childhood development, education, family studies or a related field of study together with five (5) years experience in the field of children services with a minimum of two (2) years in a management/leadership role. Must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of all aspects child care service administration related legislation and program requirements as well as have a good understanding of municipal service operations. Must have demonstrated effective customer service skills and the ability to maintain effective working relationships with staff, individuals and families and the public. Must possess effective verbal written and interpersonal skills as well as ability to exercise good judgement. Must have the ability to manage and effectively respond to stressful and contentious situations. Must be competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health and safety Act and be capable of issuing clearly understandable written instructions. Knowledge of factors affecting early learning and child care quality and social well being would be an asset. Registered and in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators would be considered an asset. 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Must possess a valid Driver's licence for the Province of Ontario. The use of a privately owned vehicle is required. May be required to work beyond the normal hours of work. 

REMUNERATION RANGE: $40.50 - $50.59 per hour working 35 hours per week ($73,710 – $92,074 per annum) plus a comprehensive benefit package. Remuneration is under review.
