Reporting to the CAO, the Director of Community Services is responsible for the overall planning, organizing, directing, coordinating and controlling of activities necessary to deliver mandatory and non-mandatory human services to all residents of Dufferin County.

The County of Dufferin sits on the fringe of the Greater Toronto Area, about 80 kilometres northwest of downtown Toronto. It combines beautiful rural landscape with small town charm. Orangeville is the largest of three urban settlement areas and home to the County Administration Centre. The region is well known for its rivers, its rolling hills and its excellent outdoor recreation opportunities. The UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, the Niagara Escarpment and the world famous Bruce Trail, run through Dufferin offering spectacular vistas and hiking opportunities. Home to 62,000 residents, the area boasts fabulous restaurants, shopping and amenities.

Reporting to the CAO, the Director of Community Services is responsible for the overall planning, organizing, directing, coordinating and controlling of activities necessary to deliver mandatory and non-mandatory human services to all residents of Dufferin County.

Minimum qualifications are as follows:

  • Graduation from a recognized university in an acceptable related field or from a community college in social services.
  • Eight (8) years of closely related management experience in a municipality or government agency.
  • Minimum four (4) years of senior management experience.
  • Proven leadership abilities that show you can communicate a clear and compelling vision of the future, generate enthusiasm, commitment and confidence in your plan and develop a team that is capable of delivering excellence.
  • Advance skills and experience related to Ontario Works, Social Housing and Children’s Services.
  • Strong financial management skills related to budget preparation and monitoring.
  • Proven experience in establishing and maintaining strong working relationships across the organization as well as with key partners and stakeholders in order to gather input, build consensus and deliver on priorities.
  • The capacity to collaborate across multiple groups, willingly share resources to support cross-functional work and build harmony across the organization in order to further the collective goals of the corporation.
  • The ability to “think forward” and develop strategies to improve the way the organization functions based on a comprehensive understanding of changes in legislation and in client requirements and expectations.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and presenting a range of strategic and innovative corporate materials to senior management and committee members.
  • Proficient technical skills in Microsoft Office.
