    Political Acuity

    This one day course will introduce you to the skills and abilities for understanding and cultivating your political acuity. Learn how to recognize and work with formal and informal systems, practices, relationships and cultures so that you can identify impacts, influence decisions and achieve organizational objectives. Practical examples will be used to illustrate these skills and learning will occur through individual and group exercises, case studies and discussions.

    Managing Human Services in an Environment of Change

    Human services are being transformed in response to integration initiatives and fundamental system changes. These emerging and impending changes have an impact on the communities that CMSMs and DSSABs serve, and on the programs and services delivered. Change is a constant, and its impacts on individuals and communities must be understood and managed. This workshop will help participants understand the mechanics and the culture of change, and develop strategies to lead teams, departments and communities through change.

    Compassion Fatigue

    Everyone who is in the helping field will at some point in their career experience various levels of compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma, burnout, moral distress, frustration and stress which could lead to people becoming negative, cynical, avoiding clients, calling in sick often, contributing to declining morale and leaving the profession. Are there solutions for people to help themselves? Who would have thought that those in the helping field would be affected by the countless stories heard across the desk?

    Eligibility Review Officer - Core

    The eligibility review process is a series of detailed steps and procedures that must be followed in order to assess and investigate Ontario Works eligibility and referrals. This 3-day workshop will provide you with guides and tips to conducting an investigation, reviewing the differences between civil, provincial offences and criminal prosecutions, the use of discretion when deciding upon the pursuit of a judicial outcome and many other facets of the ERO world.

    Managing Emergency Social Services

    February 5-6 Waterloo (hosted by the Region of Waterloo) This two day interactive workshop will help you understand and identify how social services should fit into the emergency operations of a municipality or DSSAB, including: developing an Emergency Social Services Plan, identifying roles and responsibilities, and interacting with other key agencies in an emergency.
